Writing Prompt 104: Ascent

“Describe ascent using all the metaphors, similes, and physical descriptions you can think of”

Ascent is like levitation. It means going up or scaling; escalation. It’s like growing, in that you reach what’s further above you, but you stay the same size. It means flying! But you have to always be going up, even if each elevation is minuscule. It’s floating and resisting the persistent pull of gravity that tethers us to the ground.

Think of an ant crawling up a wall—they can do that, you know. Or a crane lifting a heavy piece of equipment at a construction site. Think of a growing tree, and the child that climbs it. Imagine a ball that’s been kicked and watch it soar higher and higher and higher, until it ceases its upwards path only to come back down again.
